Celebrate Earth Day at the Art Gallery of Swift Current

April 21, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.
Art Gallery of Swift Current, R.C. Dahl Centre at 411 Herbert Street East, Swift Curret, Sask.

Celebrate Earth Day with Rebecca, Branimir and Derek!

Nature Saskatchewan and the Southwest Naturalists present a Coffeehouse Evening in celebration of Earth Day, featuring a slide show and reading from the book The Great Sandhills: A Prairie Oasis. Award-winning author Rebecca L. Grambo teamed up with photographer Branimir Gjetvaj to create the book, a collection of photos celebrating prairie life and landscape. This stunning book will be available for purchase at the event.

After studying geological engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, as well as at the University of Saskatchewan, Beresford, South Dakota native Rebecca L. Grambo has maintained an interest in the environment. Her love of the outdoors is reflected not only in her hobbies of gardening and wildlife photography, but also in her writing. Rebecca has written more than a dozen books on a variety of subjects for both children and adults.

Saskatchewan-based photographer Branimir Gjetvaj specializes in outdoor and nature photography, particularly western Canadian landscapes. His extensive travels for the past eighteen years have taken him throughout North America. His passion for the natural world has led him to use his work as vehicle to promote the appreciation and protection of the environment. Through photography and lectures, Branimir encourages people to explore the wonders of the world, and take an active role in preserving it.

The Coffeehouse Evening will offer an opportunity for the audience to enjoy a reading from the book, along with a presentation of slides. There will also be entertainment provided by Lethbridge singer / songwriter Derek Hintz.

Born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Derek picked up the guitar at the age of nine and played until he was seventeen. After obtaining a Visual Communications diploma from Medicine Hat College, Derek’s interest in music was reignited. His renewed passion combined with the creativity to start writing his own music gave Derek the confidence he needed to perform. His Dylan-esque blend of country, blues, and folk combined with his heatlfelt lyrics have led Derek to a number of performances in his hometown. Currently, Derek is working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Lethbridge.

This visually stimulating and thought-provoking evening will offer audiences the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day by honoring the unique Saskatchewan landscape.

The Coffeehouse Evening will be presented on Saturday, April 21st by Nature Saskatchewan and the Southwest Naturalists, and will be held at 7:30 pm at Art Gallery of Swift Current. Tickets are only $5.00 each and are available at Pharmasave and at the Art Gallery of Swift Current in the R.C. Dahl Centre at 411 Herbert Street East.
