The next Outdoor and Nature Photography
Field Trip is to Beaver Creek Conservation
Area (BCCA),
a scenic park of mixed aspen woodlots and grassy fields. The BCCA
is located 13 km south of Saskatoon along the banks
of the South Saskatchewan River. This event is organized by
the
Saskatoon
Nature Society and is free of charge to all participants (SNS welcomes
guests to their field trips so bring your friends).
Date:
Saturday, 26. June 2010
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Place: we will meet at the Western Development Museum
parking lot (on Lorne Avenue, near Ruth Street) for car pooling at
4:00 pm.
If you miss
the group, drive south on Highway 219. After approximately 13 km you
will see the park sign on your right, just before the road crosses
a bridge over
the creek. There is a parking lot near the Interpretive centre where
you can leave your vehicle and look for us. This is an open event,
and everyone
is welcome to join.
The emphasis of the field trip will be on landscape and nature photography,
with some plant macro photography. A variety of macro equipment and photo
aids, as well as approaches to photographing flowers will
be presented.
Level of walking difficulty: easy on well maintained trails, with a short
stairwell climb up a river bank.
What to bring: your camera, camera manual, tripod, comfortable hiking boots, and mosquito
repellent. Polarizing filter is optional but recommended. We will have dinner in the field
(not provided so ).
The valley formed by the meandering Beaver Creek is populated with aspen
and birch trees, as well as many shrubs. The adjacent areas contain extensive
fields of open grasslands. We will be looking for seasonal wildflowers in
bloom. Both the Beaver Creek and South Saskatchewan river banks offer ample
opportunities for nature and landscape photography.
